Last night, my business partner Reid and I attended the Ontario Real Estate Investors Organization (OREIO) monthly event at the Travelodge Hotel on Carling in Ottawa. While we’ve been to events in the past, we hadn’t been to one recently. This evening’s presentation took on a slightly different format, leveraging a panel of experts in different fields and it made for both a very interesting and informative evening.
The following experts were the individuals who made up the panel:
Gary Katz – Accountant – Logan Katz LLP Chartered Accountants
Chad Robinson – Mortgage Broker – Verico Best Interest Mortgages Inc
Jennna Swinwood – Realtor – Jenna Swinwood Keller Williams
Doris Belland – Rent-to-Own expert – Blue Ribbon Partnerships
Every one of these experts were both sincere and unbelievably knowledgeable in their own respective domains of expertise. They discussed the absolute critical importance of putting together an expert team that will support ongoing real estate investments, and a tremendous amount of small gems of information were shared that will most definitely prove to be invaluable in upcoming negotiations and deals.
It would be impossible to recount the numerous gems that were communicated throughout a two and a half hour evening, but important topics revolving around capital gains versus income taxes, the difference between getting a mortgage at a bank versus leveraging the expertise of a broker and why (and not just from Chad’s perspective), the vital impact that building a relationship with the right real estate broker can have on the bottom line of every investors’ portfolios and of course an in-depth look at the difference between long-term cashflow generating properties versus the rent-to-own approach, delivering a clear understanding as to the pros and cons of both approaches and how both strategies can fit into any real estate investors approach to accelerating returns for their investors.
Overall, it was a fun, educational and thoroughly engaging presentation put on by the experts of the Ontario Real Estate Investors Organization (OREIO). These events provide a lot of insight into the tangible education that real estate investors learn from traditional materials (courses, books, seminars, etc.) and practically all of the intangible benefits that no formal education can deliver such as the connections to the industry professionals – investors, mortgage brokers, property managers, realtors, insurance experts, lawyers, partners and the list goes on.
If you’re interested in becoming a real estate investor and you’ve made the decision that you’re going to take the leap and invest into your own financial freedom, these are *must attend* events. Every little insight, every little gem, every little lesson that you learn could save you literally thousands (or even tens of thousands) in potential mistakes. Next month, Don Campbell himself will be in Ottawa on Monday, April 16, 2012 at 7:00 PM. If you haven’t ever been to an event, this is the one that you must finally attend! No more procrastination, buy a ticket and come out!
If you’re interested in becoming a real estate investor but don’t necessarily have the time to dedicate to both the formal and informal initial and ongoing education required to consistently complete lucrative real estate deals that lead to financial freedom, you still have the option to become a venture partner. Find a team that you know and trust and reach out to them, afterall a percentage of lucrative returns is still significantly better than the entire portion of an average return whereby the risk is entirely yours and volatility is not on your side. Your next move is your decision, are you doing everything you can to become financially free? You owe it to yourself.
